Before you migrate your CRM... take a good look at what you're bringing with you.
A CRM migration can feel like the perfect opportunity for a fresh start — a better system, better processes, better reporting, and maybe finally a way to fix some of the frustrations your team has been working around for years. But a new CRM doesn't automatically mean new, clean data.
If you're bringing along duplicate contacts, outdated accounts, incomplete fields, inconsistent naming conventions, questionable parent-child relationships, and records nobody is quite sure what to do with, you're not really starting fresh.
You're relocating the mess.
Before you begin mapping fields and moving records, spend some time understanding what is actually in the source data. Decide what needs to move, what shouldn't, what needs to be corrected first, and — probably most importantly — what rules you're going to use when the answer isn't obvious.
Because the goal of a migration shouldn't simply be to get your data from System A into System B.
It should be to arrive with information your team can actually trust. Before you migrate it, clean it up.
